Legal Counsel – European Hedge Fund

Our client is a renowned global long-short equity hedge fund currently seeking for a diligent and motivated legal counsel to join the Legal team based in Hong Kong. This is a newly created headcount as a part of expansion plans. The successful candidate will assist the General Counsel in advising on all legal matters across the Asia region. This role will be based in Hong Kong and Mandarin language skills are required.

Key responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate various legal documents such as corporate documents, vendor agreements, and data contracts
  • Examine post-trade documentation and collaborate with stakeholders, escalating matters when necessary
  • Serve as an expert on APAC regulations and changes, actively participating in industry associations.
  • Assist in projects related to the Asia business from legal perspective.
  • Support general APAC corporate affairs, governance, and policies.
  • Adhere to the highest ethical standards and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.

Role requirements

  • Law degree from a reputable university, demonstrating exceptional academic performance.
  • Legally qualified in a common law jurisdiction (UK, Hong Kong) or New York.
  • Knowledge and working proficiency in derivative products is a plus.
  • 2-4 PQE from a hedge fund or investment funds / derivatives practice from a law firm.
  • Display intellectual curiosity, a willingness to learn, sound judgment, and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Communicate complex legal issues concisely and work well with internal/external parties.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin is a MUST.
