Legal Counsel – Sydney Based Role

Our client is one of the most recognized retail brand in the world. They are now looking to hire a highly driven, dynamic and experienced Legal Counsel to lead their legal Oceania team. This role will be reporting to the Regional Legal Counsel and working closely with business stakeholders as a Legal Business Partner.

Key responsibilities

Contract Management:

  • Negotiating, drafting, and reviewing various business and legal contracts and documents such as leasing agreements, marketing contracts, finance agreements, and HR-related documents.
  • Managing contract templates to ensure accuracy and compliance.

 

Legal and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Providing advice on legal and regulatory compliance matters related to business operations, including consumer law, employment law, health & safety regulations, and trade compliance.

 

Policies, Procedures, and Training:

  • Assisting the APAC Legal Team in developing, implementing, and delivering training on policies and procedures concerning relevant legal and compliance topics.

 

General Legal Support:

  • Managing relationships with external counsel.
  • Monitoring legal updates and conducting legal research.
  • Coordinating regional and group legal projects as needed.

Role requirements

  • Minimum LLB/equivalent degree from a reputable university.
  • Qualified lawyer in Australia, preferably in New South Wales, with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Dual qualification in Australia & New Zealand will be considered favorably.

 

Skills Required:

  • Background in commercial or corporate law with prior in-house experience.
  • Strong familiarity with Australian and New Zealand legal practices and laws.
  • Excellent technical and communication skills.
  • Preferred experience in real estate, employment law, retail, or FMCG industries.
  • Strong commercial acumen and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
