Application Support Engineer

This is a contract position to begin with, supporting critical enterprise applications running on Microsoft Azure and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) environments.

We are looking for a hands-on Application Support Engineer with strong production support and troubleshooting experience. Candidates must have practical experience supporting applications hosted on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), including incident investigation, service restoration, monitoring, and root cause analysis within containerised environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide L2 production support for business-critical applications running on Azure and AKS.
  • Perform incident investigation, troubleshooting, and service restoration activities.
  • Analyse application, infrastructure, and Kubernetes logs to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to AKS, application services, APIs, databases, networking, and integrations.
  • Monitor production systems and proactively identify potential risks or service degradation.
  • Investigate pod failures, deployment issues, performance bottlenecks, and service disruptions within AKS environments.
  • Execute SQL queries and perform data validation to support troubleshooting activities.
  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, security, and vendor teams to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Support application deployments, releases, and post-deployment validation activities.
  • Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes following ITIL best practices.
  • Develop and maintain support documentation, runbooks, and knowledge articles.
  • Recommend and implement preventive measures to improve platform stability and reduce recurring incidents.

Role requirements

Mandatory Requirements

  • Proven experience supporting applications hosted on Microsoft Azure.
  • Hands-on experience working with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) in a production environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting Kubernetes-related issues, including pods, deployments, services, networking, and application availability.
  • Strong production support and incident management experience.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis and driving issue resolution.
  • Familiarity with application monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, Azure Monitor, or similar.
  • Experience supporting APIs, integrations, and distributed systems.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and database troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of cloud networking, security concepts, certificates, secrets, and access controls.
  • Familiarity with ITIL Incident, Problem, and Change Management processes.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Docker and containerised applications.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
  • Experience with GitOps tools such as ArgoCD.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Experience in high-availability or 24/7 production support environments.
  • Azure and/or Kubernetes certifications would be highly advantageous.
