Head of Commercial

A leading multinational manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Head of Commercial to join its leadership team in Malaysia. The organization is entering an exciting growth phase and is looking for a strategic commercial leader to drive sales performance, profitability and market leadership across its Trade, Foodservice, Industrial and Key Account channels.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Managing Director, this is a senior leadership role accountable for the overall commercial strategy and performance of the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving annual revenue, gross margin and strategic growth objectives, while developing long-term customer partnerships, expanding market penetration and identifying new business opportunities. The role is based in Malaysia, with oversight and support for SEA business development activities where applicable.

Key responsibilities

  • Shape and deliver the company’s commercial strategy, driving revenue, profitability and market share targets across all core business channels.
  • Direct the sales organization to consistently meet volume, value, margin and receivables targets.
  • Identify and pursue new growth avenues, from acquiring new customers to expanding into new channels and building strategic accounts.
  • Build and sustain long-term relationships with major clients, distribution partners and key industry stakeholders.
  • Own the annual planning cycle, translating company goals into concrete sales forecasts, budgets and business plans.
  • Track shifts in the market, competitor moves and evolving customer needs, using these insights to sharpen the organization’s competitive positioning.
  • Take the lead on pricing decisions, commercial negotiations and contract terms to protect margins and secure lasting customer value.
  • Expand the organization’s footprint and share of wallet across customer segments and geographies.
  • Partner closely with technical, R&D, operations and supply chain functions to bring customer-centric solutions and growth initiatives to life.
  • Spearhead new product introductions and broader business development and growth initiatives.
  • Track performance against key sales metrics and step in with corrective measures whenever targets are at risk.
  • Mentor and develop the sales leadership bench, fostering a high-performance culture and a strong succession pipeline.
  • Oversee credit control processes to keep collections on track and within target.
  • Act as the face of the organization at major client meetings, industry conferences and strategic forums.
  • Sit on the country leadership team, helping to shape overall business direction and key decisions.

Role requirements

  • 10 to 15+ years’ experience in senior commercial or sales leadership positions.
  • At least 8 years operating at a senior management level, overseeing multiple sales channels simultaneously.
  • Solid grounding in Trade, Foodservice, B2B and Industrial sales settings.
  • Background in FMCG, Manufacturing, would be an advantage.
  • A track record of delivering profitable growth while managing sizeable customer portfolios.
  • History of building and leading successful, high-performing sales teams.
