Group Business Director

This role is tasked with creating a recognized digital-led strategies across paid media, owned and earned media & innovations working closely with Head of Strategy and Business Management community that elevates client’s positions in the market, and deliver new tech and data analytics solutions to grow Malaysia’s digital economy and client’s business.

Reporting to Managing Director & Role is based in Malaysia.

The Business Management Community’s performance is critical to our market perception and business health. This community is therefore tasked with creating a recognized market-leading position in communications planning, strategic approach, implementational & executional management, and client servicing.

The Group Business Director as lead on a key client plays a critical role in attaining this ambition. You are expected to manage your direct reports (Account Directors / Managers / Executives) on key client accounts which is primarily a large team of estimate 10 – 15 or possibly more individuals. You are expected to work collaboratively with the Regional/Global teams as a key market lead within the network.

Key responsibilities

  • The Group Business Director are an experienced client team who lead the business relationship globally and regionally and locally. You responsible for global strategy and regional leadership out of Malaysia on existing and new business. As GBD you are responsible for the key day to day delivery of this, as well as promoting best practice and driving creative innovation with our local teams.
  • Global and Regional Management
    • Lead, participate and transition global/regional/local pitches for new business alongside the Malaysia leadership team.
    • Expert at facilitation of global and regional client management and network relationships on current and new accounts.
    • Develop strong internal relationships with key stakeholders across the network (Global and Regional) to ensure delivery of our partnership with clients in markets, working closely with the APAC leadership team to do so.
    • Upskilling and adoption and product through up/cross selling to drive growth for business (planning, data, reporting and media products).
  • Being a Trusted Client Advisory
    • Work closely with Managing Director in building rapport & trust for senior relations with clients.
    • Lead the client relationships on assigned accounts and ensuring you are spearheading the development and growth of current team members on the account to meet client needs.
    • Lead across the senior client’s media communication requirements establish client business needs and work with digital SBU’s to deliver solutions. High-level understanding of how these digital products offer benefit to the client and lead the adoption of these products from inception to completion.
    • Regularly demonstrate your ability to converse with senior clients on day-to-day activity (including digital) and how it is performing for their business. You should know the basics about the digital work that your clients are doing and be able to have a topline conversation about results and how it may have impacted their business.
  • Communications and Media Strategy Savviness
    • Guide on the involvement of insights & creative communications solutions for key briefs on your client’s business.
    • Contribution to and help leadership of planning workshops & ideas generation session.
    • Understand and deploy the core comms strategy product, OMNI Studio and become an expert on the tool to deploy across all clients during the integrated media planning process.
  • Day to Day Implementation and Operations
    • Day to day management of all delivery partners to ensure brief is delivered / bought to plan, within appropriate criteria (budget, target).
    • Motivate Account Managers to create innovative and accurate plans based on agreed strategic direction and ensure flawless execution and brilliant basics in media.
    • Upkeep, and timely delivery of all relevant reporting systems and templates (include media plans, contact reports, status reports).
    • Ensuring client satisfaction on digital delivery.
    • Management of post campaign reporting that quantifies the value of the media strategy.
    • Supervision of the collation of competitive data in agreed formats required.
  • Client Profitability Acumen
    • Responsibility for leading fee arrangements within your client group.
    • Work with business teams to sell-through appropriate digital, data, tech solutions to client business.
    • Productive application of team resources to deliver required margins, and bonus where applicable.
    • Work with Head of Strategy to drive new business revenues either via new product developments or in new business pitches.
    • Responsible to drive increase of digital revenue.
    • Leading business team and the digital specialist relationships (internal & external).
    • Development of digital direction for key clients.
    • Upscale skillset in digital across key pillars of digital – performance marketing, social, programmatic, e-commerce, marketing tech, analytics, and data programming.
    • Work closely with strategy and trading communities to ensure proper digital executions.
    • Effective working relationships with other agency personnel.

Role requirements

  • Degree qualified, supplemented by 12+ years of strong digital specialist experience, technical skills in AdTech, martech and machine-learning capabilities.
  • Good understanding of all media fundamentals and strategic planning capabilities.
  • Leadership in client facing communication, growing clients, and leading technical development.
  • Experienced in managing a large team.

    • Strong Breadth of knowledge across all digital channels particularly but also well rounded as overall media and strategic communication person.
    • Senior enough to be able to stand up to client or creative agency using appropriate & diplomatic judgments to get the right result.
    • Be confident to present at large meetings/conferences in an articulate and clear manner.
    • Have ability to understand and account for multiple stakeholders and their issues.
    • Deliver broad business thinking as well as having the ability to deliver against processes and attention to detail that come with accounts of this scale.
