Operations Manager Actuaries and Advanced Analytics

Our client is looking for a mid-level position that manages development teams and projects to meet quality, schedule, milestone, and budget commitments. The position will act as the primary liaison between IT and business for projects related to Data & Analytical Solutions.

This individual manages on-shore and off-shore team and will provide day to day Architecture oversight, support for a portfolio of applications in Data & Analytics portfolio. Management includes project scoping, resource planning and tracking, problem resolution and status reporting.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as primary liaison to the business for a portfolio of applications including our Data and Analytics Solutions with support Actuaries and Advanced Analytics team for Leads analytics.
  • New opportunities with data sources and integration of external data will be required to support this new channel.
  • Act as primary liaison with an on-shore and off-shore outsourced development Team.
  • Coordinate all phases of the System Development Life Cycle activities of the Team.
  • Manage and mentor project and technical staff members of the Team.
  • Maintain manpower plan for the Team.
  • Interact with production support personnel to ensure that critical and major production issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Act as lead in problem resolution discussions.
  • Proactively manage issues/risks and escalate them as needed.
  • Build project plans and timelines for projects which could involve multiple vendors and cross-team resources.
  • Plan, manage and execute projects to completion.
  • Provide periodic status reports on projects.
  • Maintain a high level of personal commitment and accountability to the business, and a focus on quality and service.
  • Interact with the business through requirements analysis and design sessions.
  • Participates in the Annual Budget Planning Process and Monthly Budget Review
  • Work with IT Management to determine priorities and resolve issues.
  • Participate in internal design and code review processes to ensure that solutions effectively meet business objectives while using innovative, performance-oriented technology.
  • Manage and track project costs, including plan vs actual costs, forecasted estimates to complete, and costs at completion.
  • Maintain proper controls to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Role requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems or other related field Or Equivalent work experience, including 10+ years of working in an Information Technology job managing project delivery and/or application development teams.
  • Experience with Data Architecture / Digital development
  • Works with business leaders to identify problems which can be solved with predictive modeling.
  • Identifies the data needed to solve the problem, whether it is our internal data or information needed from external sources.
  • Works with Actuaries and Advanced Analytics team to develop the appropriate model to solve the business issue.
  • Partners with the business to implement changes based on model results.
  • Ensure new data sources from digital/alternative distribution partnerships is properly utilized by all aspects of the business (including finance and actuarial).
  • Help prioritize existing data requests and ensure business needs are addressed.
  • Support BI team on ad-hoc requests from a data standpoint.
  • Support for North America data requirements (all parts of the business)
  • Data stewardship – new data sources across other parts of the business including Operations.

  • Solid presentation & facilitation skills
  • Working knowledge of systems development methodologies and project life cycles
  • Knowledge of project management fundamentals

  • Ability to effectively work with users of various levels from clerical to senior management.
  • Experience with life and health insurance administration system processes
  • Experience supporting Data & Digital Solutions
  • Experience developing cost-benefit assessments.
  • Experience working in an outsourced environment.
  • Experience coordinating development and testing activities with an offshore team.
