Our client is a prestigious financial institution is seeking a dedicated and experienced Sanctions Compliance Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with international sanctions regulations and policies. Your work will be instrumental in safeguarding our organization from legal, regulatory, and reputational risks associated with business dealings involving sanctioned entities and countries.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the APAC Regional Head of Sanctions to mitigate risks associated with sanctioned entities and countries.
  • Provide expert guidance on sanctions-related matters, helping establish robust organizational structures and control mechanisms.
  • Liaise with client service officers to make compliance-based decisions on transaction requests.
  • Monitor the evolving sanctions regulatory landscape in the region, facilitating policy adjustments.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of transaction requests to ensure adherence to sanctions regulations and internal policies.
  • Investigate and review escalated payment messages for potential sanctions or policy violations.
  • Contribute to deal team activities by drafting sanctions clauses.
  • Evaluate and make decisions regarding the adoption of new clients and review of existing clients.
  • Assist in fulfilling sanctions-related reporting obligations to competent authorities.
  • Handle inquiries from regulatory authorities, internal and external auditors, and business units related to sanctions compliance.
  • Conduct training and briefing sessions for business and infrastructure units.
  • Participate in global and regional calls to stay updated on regional developments.
  • Report any sanctions breaches to the AFC Sanctions Breach Team.

Role requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant sanctions experience in a financial institution or investment bank.
  • Proven knowledge of regional and global sanctions policies and governance.
  • Expertise in financial sanctions and embargoes across the APAC region.
  • Strong project management and planning skills.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with business units and locations in the APAC region.
  • Detail-oriented with a meticulous approach to reviewing sanctions-related issues.
  • Proactive, self-starting, and independent with a principled and action-oriented approach.
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills and an understanding of Asia-Pacific cultural nuances.
