Key responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements with partners and clients, ensuring all legal obligations are met and risks are mitigated. Understanding and focusing on trading businesses, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, trademarks, and international legal matters.
  • Provide legal guidance and support to internal teams and businesses on matters related to international business expansion, compliance, including sanctions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage disputes effectively, overseeing external counsel, defining fee scopes and budgets, and ensuring resolutions align with company objectives.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to the purchase, sale, and transportation of commodities.
  • Ensure that contracts protect the firm’s interests and comply with legal standards.
  • Conduct legal research, stay updated with industry regulations and best practices, and provide recommendations to the management team.

Role requirements

  • More than 8 years of experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel, preferably with a focus on trading businesses, finance, or a related industry. In this role they will have had a focus on contracts, mergers and acquisitions, shipping law issues, and trademarks, along with international legal matters.
  • The successful candidate will be comfortable working for a fast-paced global organization and confident in their regular interactions with the business and making decisions that require intellectual nimbleness, pragmatism, and commercial acumen.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships with stakeholders will be critical for this role.
  • Experience working in a global matrix-structured organization across multiple business units.
