Senior HR Generalist (Manufacturing)

Our client is a global leader in advanced manufacturing, known for our commitment to operational excellence, innovation and sustainable practices. Their Chennai plant plays a crucial role in regional supply chain, and they are looking for a seasoned HR professional to support and drive people agenda on the shop floor.

 

The Senior HR Generalist will be responsible for managing end-to-end HR operations. The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience in a manufacturing / industrial environment with a deep understanding of labor relations, talent acquisition, compliance and employee engagement in a factory setup.

Key responsibilities

  • Plant HR Operations: Handle day-to-day HR activities at the plant including office time, attendance and leave management.
  • Employee Relations & Labor Laws: Manage employee grievances, disciplinary actions and industrial relations, ensure compliance with labor laws including Factories Act, Standing Orders, CLRA etc.
  • Statutory Compliance: Ensure end-to-end compliance with ESI, PF, gratuity, maternity benefits and other statutory obligations.
  • Recruitment & Onboarding: Oversee hiring for blue-collar and staff roles at the plant, conduct induction and orientation programs.
  • Performance Management: Support annual goal setting, reviews and continuous feedback mechanisms, work closely with line managers.
  • Training & Development: Identify skill gaps, coordinate technical and behavioral training and drive learning programs at the plant.
  • HR Policy Implementation: Ensure adherence to corporate HR policies, localize and implement people’s practices aligned to plant needs.
  • Health, Safety & Welfare: Collaborate with EHS teams to promote a safe working environment, lead welfare initiatives and statutory committees.

Role requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Graduate / Postgraduate in Human Resources / Labor Welfare / Industrial Relations (MBA / MSW / MLW preferred).
  • Minimum 8–12 years of experience in core HR roles within a factory / plant setup.
  • Strong knowledge of labor laws, union management and compliance.
  • Experience in managing blue-collar workforce and dealing with contract labor.
  • Hands-on experience with HR systems and MS Office tools.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
