Senior Legal Role – Front Office

A Global Multinational Bank is seeking an experienced derivatives lawyer / negotiator to provide legal support for the Wholesale Global Markets business for India region. This role focuses on advising and supporting the Fixed Income, Equity, and Prime Services divisions. The position is based in Mumbai and will report directly to the Legal Department. This role is for the front office team.

Key responsibilities

  • Advise and support the India business on derivatives transactions and related master agreements.
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage execution of master agreements for market products, including OTC derivatives and repos, such as ISDA Master Agreements, Credit Support Annexes (CSAs), and Global Master Repurchase Agreements (GMRAs).
  • Ensure robust legal risk control and compliance with the firm’s policies and guidelines.
  • Advise on India and global regulatory changes and assess their impact on derivatives and other relevant market products.
  • Collaborate with local, regional, and global teams such as Risk Management, Finance, Operations, Legal, Compliance, and others to ensure consistent approaches.
  • Manage external legal counsel as needed for specific transactions or projects.
  • Handle bespoke transactions and manage special projects.
  • Coordinate with regulators and participate in industry forums.

Role requirements

Experience:

  • Lawyer / negotiator with a minimum of 10 years of experience in derivatives, with a strong preference for experience in the Indian regulatory environment related to market products.
  • Prior experience in legal private practice or as in-house counsel at an investment bank.
  • Expertise in template development, systems, and related software.
  • Experience working with offshore teams and third-party service providers.
