Meet Reema Bhullar: From Malaysia To Singapore – The Journey of a Vivacious Recruiter

July 2019

In this series, we interview one of our team members – Reema Bhullar – to find out her journey, background and what it takes to be part of The Edge Partnership. She is a Senior Associate focused on placing individuals with Digital and Data experience within the Financial Services, Fintech and Technology industry in Asia.

#1 Tell us more about yourself.

My name is Reema Bhullar and I’m a Malaysian! I recruit for Digital roles across various industries in The Edge Partnership. I’ve been in Singapore for three years now and a recruiter for six years.

#2 How did you end up in recruitment consulting?

The first recruitment agency I was with placed me in a PR role – it was the first time I had interacted with a recruiter. I felt the process was helpful as I had many options and someone to guide me through the process. When I left my PR role, I approached The Edge Partnership for a recruiter role and that’s how I ended up in recruitment consulting.

#3 How has the journey been from Malaysia to Singapore?

Although the two countries share many similarities, there are stark differences as well. Singapore is a lot more competitive and for the size of the country, there are a lot more recruitment agencies out there! I had to adapt quickly to the fast-paced environment and the rapid speed at which people worked here. Another thing about Singapore is the ability to network very easily, everyone is always ready to meet you for a coffee and nothing is ever too far away!

#4 If you had to pinpoint a definitive moment of your career, what would that be?

There have been many moments in my career! However, the most defining one for me was when I was leaving my last job when the team of new recruits told me that I was the most helpful, patient and approachable person they have come ever across and they wouldn’t hesitate to seek help – even when I wasn’t directly managing any of them. This showed that I have what it takes to lead and nurture a team – something I hope to do very soon!

#5 What is your job like at The Edge? Describe what your typical day looks like.

I am building a new vertical with The Edge, so my day is filled with identifying great clients and candidates that can stand to benefit from our extensive network. In addition to that, I’m working with some great clients in the FinTech space – my day heavily involves recruiting the best talent for them.

#6 What did your recruiting process look like? Did you find The Edge or did we find you?

This is the wonders of networking in Singapore – let’s say we found each other 😊. I’ve known a couple of the team members from The Edge through our mutual network and through interaction we started the interview process which led me to my role here!

#7 What tips would you share with future Team Edge recruits?

If you’re looking for a mature and highly driven environment, then this is the firm for you! We may be working on our own verticals, but there is a great support system to help you with your work.

#8 Given that The Edge values work-life balance, what are some of your special interests and hobbies outside of work?

I have finally invested in a personal trainer! The team at The Edge are generally very healthy and I am now signing up for my first run with the team – the only thing I’ve ever run for is the bus; so looking forward to training for that!

#9 Who would you most like to swap places with for a day – a celebrity, a family member or someone you admire?

I have come across this question a lot and truth be told – I wouldn’t want to swap places with anyone! I love my life and am not intrigued by anyone else enough to want to swap places with them.

Does working in recruiting sound like a job you’d be excited to do every day? Well, you’re in luck: The Edge is always looking for interesting candidates – refer to our jobs page on LinkedIn or simply drop us an e-mail at cv@theedgepartnership.com.
